MoveToMidi
Accessible Windows utility for converting Ableton Move and Ableton Note .ablbundle sets to standard MIDI files.
Current version: 1.3.
Project page: https://github.com/OnjLouis/MoveToMidi
Companion tool
If you want to go the other way, MidiToMove converts standard MIDI files into Ableton Move and Ableton Note .ablbundle sets.
Upgrading from 1.0
MoveToMidi 1.0 has a known updater bug that can show Ambiguous match found when checking for updates. If you are on 1.0, download and install 1.1 manually once. Future update checks work from 1.1 onward.
Build
.\Build.ps1
The build script writes beneath the current user's temporary folder by default. Pass -OutputPath to choose another destination:
.\Build.ps1 -OutputPath "C:\Tools\MoveToMidi\MoveToMidi.exe"
The build script does not create an INI file by default. Use -CreateDefaultIni when you want a starter MoveToMidi.ini beside the executable.
Behavior
- Opens one or more
.ablbundlefiles or a folder of bundles. - Reads
Song.abldirectly from each bundle without extracting the archive. - Writes standard MIDI files.
- Uses explicit track names when present, otherwise the first device name, otherwise
Track N. - Exports clip slots as consecutive scenes because Move/Note bundles do not contain a linear arrangement.
- Preserves notes, velocities, tempo, time signature, and track names.
- Reads Move 2.1 beta set time signatures stored as
upperandlowervalues. - Numeric clip envelopes are exported as MIDI controller data on configurable controller numbers.
- Source bundles are never overwritten.
- Output files preserve their source bundles' modified dates by default. This can be changed under Output Defaults.
- Failure details are written to
MoveToMidi failures.logbeside the executable. Help > Check for Updates...checks GitHub Releases.- Automatic installation verifies a cryptographic signature before replacing the current program.
Help > Version History...shows the latest GitHub release notes.
Command line
MoveToMidi.exe --output-folder "C:\Output\MIDI" "C:\Sets"
MoveToMidi.exe --no-automation --no-preserve-date "C:\Sets\Song.ablbundle"
Unspecified command-line choices use MoveToMidi.ini. Use --preserve-date or --no-preserve-date to override the saved source-date preference.
